Dash Starlight is a [[Jedi Academy Trainer]] who utilizes the [[Yellow]] [[Single]] [[Lightsaber|Saber]] stance and was taught as a [[Jedi Academy Padawan|Padawan]] by [[Jedi Academy Council]] member [[Virtue]]. He became the first [[Jedi Academy Knight]] to be instated after the [[Jedi Academy Staff|Staff]] [[purge]]. Several months later he became a Jedi Academy Trainer and achieved the rank of [[Jedi Academy Master]] before his retirement a year later. He made his return to the JAK+ after four years and is currently teaching Basic and Advanced Medium Stance classes.

== The Early Days ==
Dash Starlight joined the Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy community in August, 2004 after a friend got him interested in the game. Dash Starlight regularly visited public JA+ servers with Hellmouth and the Angels HQ being amongst his favorites. He was met with criticism right off the bat due to his playing style. This was because Dash Starlight enjoyed using the medium stance, which wasn’t appreciated by everyone.

During this time he met a player nicknamed Padawan who turned out to be [[Jaina D'Kana]]. She told Dash Starlight about the existence of [[the Jedi Academy]] after he expressed his interest in enhancing his lightsabercombat abilities with a focus on the medium stance. He then discovered a place with a most special atmosphere and a vast amount of knowledge and skills.

During his early days in the Jedi Academy, Dash Starlight received help and training from various people. [[Majno]] was assigned as his 'Big Brother' to help him find his way around the community and to teach him some basics. He also learned from other friends like [[Lancer007]], [[PlooKoon]], [[illian D'Kana]], [[Jaiko D'Kana]], [[Jaina D'Kana]], [[Virtue]], [[Carda Jowol]], [[JK13]], [[Dacascos]] and many others. He teamed up with both [[Kenny Jowol]] and Majno as training partners.

Dash Starlight took his time to get familiar with the Jedi Academy before looking for a master. He decided to contact Virtue concerning padawanship, because he could play during the weekends only and was therefore missing a lot of classes. Under the tutelage of Virtue, Dash Starlight started developing into an effective medium stance purist, but also learned about movement, Force and basic gunning.

== Knighthood ==
On April 23rd, 2005, the Purge took place. This happened, because the listed JAKs, JATs and JAMs had become less active over time and were no longer at the top of their games. All JAK+, with the exception of the Council, got their ranks reset to Student. Students were then toggled so they could initiate their Jedi Knight Trials and Dash Starlight was one of them. He was one of the first batch of students, which also included current Jedi Academy Master [[Setementor]]. After a retrial, Dash Starlight became a Jedi Academy Knight on June 17th,2005 and was the first Knight after the purge.

Dash Starlight remained an active player on public servers. He regularly visited public duel servers to hone his skills and to gain experience fighting styles that were a rare sight inside the Jedi Academy. He continued playing on public JA+ servers as well, which included Hellmouth, the Angels HQ, [[NJO]] and [[JLG]]. Although he never actually joined any of these clans, he had a lot of friends there and came by frequently.

Jedi Academy Trainer Laziana and Dash Starlight joined forces holding the 'Welcome to the Jedi Academy!' class together as they each had ideas about helping out new JAS finding their way around the Jedi Academy.

He organized the [[Fifth Anniversary Tournament]] in honor of the Jedi Academy's fifth year of existence. This tournament was held in Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast in order to go back to the game that the Jedi Academy had started with. It launched on June 11th, 2007, which was the exact date five years after the Jedi Academy's creation. The tourney saw a good number of old members participating mixed with newer members who had focussed on Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The tournament was won by Kain.

== Becoming a Jedi Academy Master ==
Again together with Setementor, Dash Starlight was promoted on April 23rd, 2009 to the rank of Jedi Academy Master. Their profiles had actually been closed prior to their promotion as a joke, which caused some stirr in the Jedi Academy at that time. No permanent damage was done, however, and Dash Starlight much appreciated seeing friends stand up for him.

== Retirement ==
Dash Starlight retired due to personal reasons on July 2nd, 2010. He continued to play Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and remained active both on the Forums of the Jedi Academy as well as on its servers. He became a JARadio DJ holding a classic Rock 'n Roll show titled 'The Jukebox' which still runs today. After a year of retirement, Dash Starlight essentially became inactive during 2012 and played, at most, once a month. This lasted until late 2012 when he decided to return to the game he had enjoyed for so many years. He discovered even less servers and players were around than a year ago, but also felt fortunate to still have a chance to play, duel and interact with others in a game that was nearly 10 years old.

It was during this era that Dash Starlight discovered the Order of Fairness. He got to know quite a few of its members and enjoyed playing there so much that he eventually joined the community. The JA was inactive at this point, and Dash Starlight felt good being part of an active community again. His stint with OoF lasted for around two months of time, but continued to be active on the OoF server as well as on other public servers.

== Return of the JAT ==
In early March, 2014, there was a sudden rise in activity in the Jedi Academy. It saw new people signing up and being active on the servers as well as the return of (many) old members. In response, Dash Starlight asked for reinstatement as a JAT on March 7th to be able to teach classes again. He put up a Basic and an Intermediate Medium Stance class which are still being taught on a weekly basis today.

== Playing Style ==
As a [[Yellow-Purist|medium stance purist]], Dash Starlight focuses on it and uses it nearly exclusively. His style is based around taking full advantage of the sabering system to cause intentional knockbacks or parries. This closely resembles Virtue’s style.

Dash Starlight believes that Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy contains a number of bugs that can be used to enhance one’s performance as the game was rushed for release. He chooses to avoid these [[exploits]], however, because he thinks it gives the user an unfair advantage over an opponent and that it would alter the gameplay and thus break the gaming experience.

He organized the [[Fifth Anniversary Tournament]] in honor of the Jedi Academy's fifth year of existence. This tournament was held in Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast in order to go back to the game that the Jedi Academy had started with. It launched on June 11th, 2007, which was the exact date five years after the Jedi Academy's creation. The tourney saw a good number of old members participating mixed with newer members who had focussed on Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The tournament was won by Kain.

== Becoming a Jedi Academy Master ==
Again together with Setementor, Dash Starlight was promoted on April 23rd, 2009 to the rank of Jedi Academy Master. Their profiles had actually been closed prior to their promotion as a joke, which caused some stirr in the Jedi Academy at that time. No permanent damage was done, however, and Dash Starlight much appreciated seeing friends stand up for him.

== Retirement ==
Dash Starlight retired due to personal reasons on July 2nd, 2010. He continues to play Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and is active both on the Forums of the Jedi Academy as well as on its servers. He has become a JARadio DJ holding a classic Rock 'n Roll show titled 'The Jukebox'.

== Playing Style ==
As a [[Yellow-Purist|medium stance purist]], Dash Starlight focuses on it and uses it nearly exclusively. His style is based around taking full advantage of the sabering system to cause intentional knockbacks or parries. This closely resembles Virtue’s style.

Dash Starlight believes that Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy contains a number of bugs that can be used to enhance one’s performance as the game was rushed for release. He chooses to avoid these [[exploits]], however, because he thinks it gives the user an unfair advantage over an opponent and that it would alter the gameplay and thus break the gaming experience.

He has become very open minded about anything and always considers all options available in a particular situation from that point on. This is considered a great strength.

A JAK is a position at [[The Jedi Academy]] which provides a vital link between the students and trainers. These JAK are shining products of the Academy's teachings. A JAK does not have the ability to teach classes but can assist students in one-on-one training and take over classes if needed. The primary role of the Knights are to be admins on the servers and enforce the rules.

==The Selection Process - Becoming a Knight==

Knights are selected from the [[Jedi Academy|Academy]] [[Jedi Academy Student|Student]] body by the [[Jedi Academy Trainer|Jedi Academy Trainers]]. Other Knights can make recommendations but only the JATs have the power to "toggle" a Student. Typically, a Student must be a member of the Academy for at least 4 months before being eligable for Knighthood. Most Knights have been JA Students for 6 months to over a year before reaching that rank, though. Students are recommended for Knighthood both by the Students and by other Knights in their respective threads at the Academy's [http://www.thejediacademy.net/forums_detail_page.php?f_id=5932 Forums]. When the JATs and the [[Jedi Academy Council|JACs]] decide the Academy needs more Knights, the JATs go through the recommendations and toggle a "batch" of potential Knights. Batches are usually between 3-7 potentials. Today, the actual toggling is done by the JACs and the JATs simply vote in a thread for each potential.
Each JAT has a limited number of votes they can use. If a potential gets enough votes, he or she gets toggled by the JAC. Once toggled, they can take the next step: the written test.

===The Written Exam===
Once toggled, a slight change happens on the Academy's [http://www.thejediacademy.net website] that lets the student know he's been selected. Through this, the student can take the written exam required before taking the trial. The exam is a special part of the website that asks roughly 5-6 questions and gives spaces for the answers. Questions range in topics about the game, about administration, and about the student's experience at the Academy. Most toggled students will discover that everytime they load the exam page different questions are asked. This can be very frustrating to students who have written their answers in a word processor and are returning to post their answers. Once submitted, the Knights, Trainers, and Council review and comment on the answers. A JAC's approval is required for the toggled student to advance to the trials. Most students end up having to modify and resubmit their exams to pass.

===The Trial===
The Knight Trial is the most secretive part of the selection process. It is also the most difficult. While the actual details of the trial cannot be revealed, it's common knowledge that the trials test an individual on their skill in the game and their ability to handle special situations. The Knight Trials have been through many renovations through the existance of the Academy. Currently, the trials are divided up into multiple parts with special maps made for each one. For a trial to take place, at least 1 JAT must be present and leads the trial. There also must be at least 2 other ranked members of the Academy there. The trial cannot have more than 5 people attending - including the potential knight. The outcome of the trial is determined by the leading JAT with the input of the others administering it. If the potential fails, he or she will have one more oppourtunity in two weeks before being detoggled.

Purge

Dashstarlight: I've written out most of what I remember of the purge. I also based it on the State of the Academy speech by doobie.

The "purge" was part of the [[Spring Cleaning]] and occured on April 23rd, 2005. All [[JAK]]s and [[JAT]]s of [[the Jedi Academy]] were placed back into the rank of student for re-evaluation, mainly due to inactivity within the ranks. Some of the original JAKs and JATs were reinstated but it took [[the Jedi Academy]] months to get a sufficient staff.

== All was not well within the Academy ==
Those who hold a rank as JAK+ are required to meet a number of standards. [[Massadoobie]] clearly mentioned Gaming skill, Activity and Attitude in his State of the Academy newspost on April 17th, 2005. Gaming skill is important, because a JAK+ is required to be a balanced player as well as having at least one area of expertise. Activity is also a standard for two reasons. The first reason is that JAK+ can only do their job if they are active. However, activity also affects skills, as a player must regularly train ingame to secure his or her skillevel. The final and most important standard is Attitude. JAK+ must be friendly, helpful, respectful and follow the rules. If they meet all of these requirements, they can serve as rolemodels to other members of the Jedi Academy.

However, there were some issues going on. Many of the JAK+ members had slowly but steadily become less active over time to the point that some were inactive completely. This has affected not only their activity, but caused a decline in skillevel as well. The result was that some JAK+ weren't around as much as they were required to and when they came online, they got destroyed by students. Intervention was necessary and the [[Jedi Academy Council]] responded accordingly.

== Measures ==
As of April 23rd, 2005 all Knights, Trainers and Staffmembers got their accounts reset to the level of Student, which became known as the purge. All classes were cancelled with the exception of [[Virtue|Virtue's.]] New trials had been created that were a lot harder than the original ones. The idea behind this was that it allowed for a more thorough scrutinization of any trialee.

== Replenishing the ranks ==
Once the measures had been in effect it was time to refill the ranks. Not all former JAK+ suffered from the issues mentioned earlier and they were toggled to face the new trials. Some students who hadn't been in the JAK+ before were also toggled. Virtue trialled [[Luke Skywalker]], [[Jaiko D'Kana]], [[Jaina D'Kana]] and [[Gradius]] who were former JAK+. Upon completing their trials they were each given the rank of [[Jedi Academy Master]].

Additional JAK+ poured in over time, albeit slowly. The reason for this was the fact that trials were conducted by JAK+ and there were very few of them present due to the purge. As a result, it took a good number of months until the Jedi Academy managed to get back to strength.

He then discovered a place with a most special atmosphere and a vast amount of knowledge and skills.

During his early days in the Jedi Academy, Dash Starlight received help and training from various people. [[Majno]] was assigned as his 'Big Brother' to help him find his way around the community and to teach him some basics. He also learned from other friends like [[Lancer007]], [[PlooKoon]], [[illian D'Kana]], [[Jaiko D'Kana]], [[Jaina D'Kana]], [[Carda Jowol]], [[JK13]], [[Dacascos]] and many others. He teamed up with both [[Kenny Jowol]] and Majno as training partners.

This tournament was held in Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast in order to go back to the game that the Jedi Academy had started with. It launched on June 11th, 2007, which was the exact date five years after the Jedi Academy's creation. The tourney saw a good number of old members participating mixed with newer members who had focussed on Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The tournament was won by Kain.

== Becoming a Jedi Academy Master ==
Again together with Setementor, Dash Starlight was promoted on April 23rd, 2009 to the rank of Jedi Academy Master. Their profiles had actually been closed prior to their promotion as a joke, which caused some stirr in the Jedi Academy at that time. No permanent damage was done, however, and Dash Starlight much appreciated seeing friends stand up for him.

== Retirement ==
Dash Starlight retired due to personal reasons on July 2nd, 2010. He continues to play Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and is active both on the Forums of the Jedi Academy as well as on its servers. He has become a JARadio DJ holding a classic Rock 'n Roll show titled 'The Jukebox'.

== Playing Style ==
As a [[Yellow-Purist|medium stance purist]], Dash Starlight focuses on it and uses it nearly exclusively. His style is based around taking full advantage of the sabering system to cause intentional knockbacks or parries. This closely resembles Virtue’s style.

Dash Starlight believes that Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy contains a number of bugs that can be used to enhance one’s performance as the game was rushed for release. He chooses to avoid these [[exploits]], however, because he thinks it gives the user an unfair advantage over an opponent and that it would alter the gameplay and thus break the gaming experience.

He then discovered a place with a most special atmosphere and a vast amount of knowledge and skills.

He decided to contact Virtue concerning padawanship, because he could play during the weekends only and was therefore missing a lot of classes. All JAK+, with the exception of the Council, got their ranks reset to Student. Students were then toggled so they could initiate their Jedi Knight Trials and Dash Starlight was one of them. He was one of the first batch of students, which also included current Jedi Academy Master [[Setementor]]. After a retrial, Dash Starlight became a Jedi Academy Knight on June 17th,2005 and was the first Knight after the purge.

Dash Starlight remained an active player on public servers. He regularly visited public duel servers to hone his skills and to gain experience fighting styles that were a rare sight inside the Jedi Academy. He continued playing on public JA+ servers as well, which included Hellmouth, the Angels HQ, [[NJO]] and [[JLG]]. Although he never actually joined either of these clans, he had a lot of friends there and came by frequently.

He organized the [[Fifth Anniversary Tournament]] in honor of the Jedi Academy's fifth year of existence. This tournament was held in Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast in order to go back to the game that the Jedi Academy had started with. It launched on June 11th, 2007, which was the exact date five years after the Jedi Academy's creation. The tourney saw a good number of old members participating mixed with newer members who had focussed on Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The tournament was won by Kain.
