Jedi Academy Knight

A JAK is a position at [[The Jedi Academy]] which provides a vital link between the students and trainers. These JAK are shining products of the Academy's teachings. A JAK does not have the ability to teach classes but can assist students in one-on-one training and take over classes if needed. The primary role of the Knights are to be admins on the servers and enforce the rules.

Knights are not chosen for “l33t” skills (although they should be good fighters of course) but for their attitude. ==The Selection Process - Becoming a Knight==

===Toggling===
Knights are selected from the Academy student body by the [[Jedi Academy Trainer|Jedi Academy Trainers]]. Other Knights can make recommendations but only the JATs have the power to "toggle" a student. Typically, a student must be a member of the Academy for at least 4 months before being eligable for Knighthood. Most Knights have been JA students for 6 months to over a year before reaching that rank, though. Students are recommended for Knighthood both by the students and by other Knights in their respective threads at the Academy's [http://www.thejediacademy.net/forums_detail_page.php?f_id=5932 forums]. When the JATs and the [[JAC|JACs]] decide the Academy needs more Knights, the JATs go through the recommendations and toggle a "batch" of potential Knights. Batches are usually between 3-7 potentials. Today, the actual toggling is done by the JACs and the JATs simply vote in a thread for each potential.
Each JAT has a limited number of votes they can use. If a potential gets enough votes, he or she gets toggled by the JAC. Once toggled, they can take the next step: the written test.

===Desired Qualities===
Potential Knights usually have these qualities:
* '''Attitude''' - Knights must be likeable and mature. They need to be able to think through conflicts rationally and not display negative emotion towards others. Knights must respect each member of the Academy. Basically, they need to act like "Knights."
* '''Skilled''' - The Academy wants its Knights to be good examples as fighters. The Knights are the future [[Jedi Academy Trainer|Trainers]] and need to be able to play the game well.
* '''Popular''' - The Academy has a lot of students and it's hard to stand out amongst them. Almost all of the Academy's Knights are well liked and popular with both the students and the staff.
* '''Able to Teach''' - While the Knights do not teach classes at the Academy, they are the next in line to do so. Therefore, a potential's ability to teach is usually a hot topic in the Knight selection process.

===The Written Exam===
Once toggled, a slight change happens on the Academy's [http://www.thejediacademy.net website] that lets the student know he's been selected. Through this, the student can take the written exam required before taking the trial. The exam is a special part of the website that asks roughly 5-6 questions and gives spaces for the answers. Questions range in topics about the game, about administration, and about the student's experience at the Academy. Most toggled students will discover that everytime they load the exam page different questions are asked. This can be very frustrating to students who have written their answers in a word processor and are returning to post their answers. Once submitted, the Knights, Trainers, and Council review and comment on the answers. A JAC's approval is required for the toggled student to advance to the trials. Most students end up having to modify and resubmit their exams to pass.

===The Trial===
The Knight Trial is the most secretive part of the selection process. It is also the most difficult. While the actual details of the trial cannot be revealed, it's common knowledge that the trials test an individual on their skill in the game and their ability to handle special situations. The Knight Trials have been through many renovations through the existance of the Academy. Currently, the trials are divided up into multible parts with special maps made for each one. For a trial to take place, at least 1 JAT must be present and leads the trial. There also must be at least 2 other ranked members of the Academy there. The trial cannot have more than 5 people attending - including the potential knight. The outcome of the trial is determined by the leading JAT with the input of the others administering it. If the potential fails, he or she will have one more oppourtunity in two weeks before being detoggled.

==Powers and Abilities==

==="Knight Level" Admin Access===
On the Academy servers, the Knights have these abilities:
* '''Status''' (jkstatus): Shows all connected clients, their ID number, and their IP address. Knights use this command to give the IP addresses to higher ranked members to either take action against or look up information on. The ID numbers are used to do other commands.
* '''Admin Chat''' (amsay): A special chat visable only to logged-in admins. Knights use this to talk about things they don't want the students to know about or simply talk to other admins.
* '''Origin''' (jkorigin): Tells the Knight where any client on the server is located on the map in X, Y, Z, and direction being faced.
* '''Teleport''' (jktele & jkteleme): The Knight can "teleport" himself or another person to any coordinates on the map.
* '''Silence''' (jksilence & jkunsilence): Removes a client's ability to chat.
* '''MP Say''' (jkmpsay): Displays a large special message either to everyone on the server or to a certain client.
* '''Kick''' (jkkick): Removes someone from the server.

The Knights in the past used to have a "Knight Level" access to the Academy's admin IRC bot in the #jedi-academy channel. The Academy no longer has this bot.

The Knights have no admin access on the website, but they do have access to the ftp server.

==="Official" Padawans===
One of the perks of being a Knight is the ability to take a student as your [[padawan]]. The padawans of Knights are considered "official padawans" in the Academy and show up under the Knight's profile.

===Official Event Coordinators===
Among their responsibilities to the Academy, Knights commonly plan, organize, and lead official events and projects. These events primarily include tournaments (The [[Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament]] and [[JAK Tournament|JAK+ Tournament]]). A few examples of projects that JAKs have had an active role in would be the making of the current [[JA Skin Pack]] and Hilt Pack (currently in the works).

Eventually, the clan fell apart and Refl3x co-created a new clan in its place called [[Luong]] with a friend known as [[Axel]] or SanFeng and another duelist named Destinova. In Luong, Refl3x helped pave way for a successful clan that in turn paved the way of the many novices in BWN or JK3 at the time into formidable fighters. Luong continued its existance as a clan until it merged with Legacy where Refl3x became one of its new leaders.

Term used for the fighting style that combines the use of [[red]], [[yellow]], and [[blue]] stances with the [[single]] saber. Many [[JKA]] fighters use a hybrid style to keep variety in their fighting. The goal is to blend the stances together to decrease the ability to predict changes in style or tactics. In addition, hybrid style fighting utilizes the many strengths of the three stances and incorporates them into one. It is a departure from the classic [[Yellow-purist|Yellow-Purists]] and [[Red-Purist|Red-Purists]] styles that were predominant in earlier days.

WoV

Clan WoV, standing for Wanders of the Vanquished, was formed mere days after the launch of the much anticipated First Person Shooter [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Jedi_Knight_II:_Jedi_Outcast Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast](2002), making it quite possibly one of the oldest [[Jedi Knight Series]] clans in existence today. Its Founder, HazelJedi, who in real life was the administrator of his own ISP, spent a good deal of time in many different servers during those early days and discovered that the way in which most clans were running at that point was not to his liking. It was for this reason that, instead of joining a clan and having to endure the way it was run, Hazeljedi decided to take the great leap of faith: he decided to form clan WoV.

[[HazelJedi]] remained an important leader of WoV for nearly three years before moving on to other pursuits. During his time in WoV, he and a few other leaders of notable maturity set up the clan WoV much to his own very structured and disciplined tastes. Many of the original members who were an integral part in taking the clan off the ground have since left, but their marks and contributions for WoV will never be forgotten. Some of these originals as they shall henceforth be referred to are [[Jaxar]] who was the designer of WoVs first site, [[Jannik]] who was the artist behind WoV clan skins, [[PadaWn]] who helped with administration and the redesign of WoVs site (mitigating factor; the site template that is currently being used was designed by [[Intrepid]]), and [[JuggaloJedi]] who, as legend has it, still remains to this day. But as the loss of some of the originals came as a blow to them, new members have stepped up in their place. [[Dragon]], [[Intrepid]], [[Xanthos]], and [[Noir]] have been passed the torch and are working off the strong foundations provided by previous members to strengthen and build WoV into something the likes of which have not been seen before in a clan.

In [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast]], WoV had a very structured system of ranks based on the military featuring: cadets, privates, on all the way up to generals and commanders. Ranks during the time were designated by color differences in the player's tags. On Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM, clan meetings were held in-game, and it gave Hazel an opportunity to speak at great length (for he loved to do so, and was never at a loss to speak about his vision for the clan). Also, [[HazelJedi]] paid the famous mapper [[Shroomduck]] to design clanbase for its members to relax in, a move which many gamers would scoff at, but one which truly demonstrated the level of dedication which [[HazelJedi]] put into the clan. The result was the map "ffa_wov", and the founding of WoV's members' only server, <|WoV|>Valhalla. The orderly nature of the clan and its many complex rituals, coupled with its famous custom map made WoV the ideal clan for many people, and at one point in [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast]], membership in WoV had swelled to 122 players (this figure is not inflated). Needless to say, this could not last, as disputes over ranks began to tear the clan apart from the inside out.

Amazingly, by the time [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy]] was launched, active membership in WoV had dwindled to roughly six members. At this point, the senior-most member was a player known as Kilroy, who's name later changed to [[Intrepid]]. He saw membership lows and the lack of more senior members as a chance for the regrowth and heavy improvement. Ranks were done away with, and with them went some of the role-playing themes which characterized WoV in [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast]], but these sacrifices had to be made in order to actuate the plan to make WoV into a respectable clan once more. Not satisfied with garnering members simply to beef up numbers, [[Intrepid]] a.k.a Kilroy went to great lengths during the early days of [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy]] to entice players who were far better than himself at the time to join.

This type of wooing continued, and after a few months, WoV had become a respectable clan again, as more time passed, it grew to become quite skilled. But the hay-day of WoV did not truly come until the dissolution of several other high-profile american clans, such as [[OoS]], and especially, american powerhouse clan Master. Many Ex-Masters found a new home in WoV, and the collective draw of the skilled players and easygoing atmosphere of WoV was answered by the new memberships of skilled duelists from all different north american clans. For a period of about 6 months or so, and probably quite longer, clan WoV was arguably the best TFFA and NF Duel clan in North America. Its Founder, HazelJedi, who in real life was the administrator of his own ISP, spent a good deal of time in many different servers during those early days and discovered that the way in which most clans were running at that point was not to his liking. It was for this reason that, instead of joining a clan and having to endure the way it was run, Hazeljedi decided to take the great leap of faith: he decided to form clan WoV.

[[HazelJedi]] remained an important leader of WoV for nearly three years before moving on to other pursuits. During his time in WoV, he and a few other leaders of notable maturity set up the clan WoV much to his own very structured and disciplined tastes. Many of the original members who were an integral part in taking the clan off the ground have since left, but their marks and contributions for WoV will never be forgotten. Some of these originals as they shall henceforth be referred to are [[Jaxar]] who was the designer of WoVs first site, [[Jannik]] who was the artist behind WoV clan skins, [[PadaWn]] who helped with administration and the redesign of WoVs site (mitigating factor; the site template that is currently being used was designed by [[Intrepid]]), and [[JuggaloJedi]] who, as legend has it, still remains to this day. But as the loss of some of the originals came as a blow to them, new members have stepped up in their place. [[Dragon]], [[Intrepid]], [[Xanthos]], and [[Noir]] have been passed the torch and are working off the strong foundations provided by previous members to strengthen and build WoV into something the likes of which have not been seen before in a clan.

In [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast]], WoV had a very structured system of ranks based on the military featuring: cadets, privates, on all the way up to generals and commanders. Ranks during the time were designated by color differences in the player's tags. On Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM, clan meetings were held in-game, and it gave Hazel an opportunity to speak at great length (for he loved to do so, and was never at a loss to speak about his vision for the clan). Also, [[HazelJedi]] paid the famous mapper [[Shroomduck]] to design clanbase for its members to relax in, a move which many gamers would scoff at, but one which truly demonstrated the level of dedication which [[HazelJedi]] put into the clan. The result was the map "ffa_wov", and the founding of WoV's members' only server, <|WoV|>Valhalla. The orderly nature of the clan and its many complex rituals, coupled with its famous custom map made WoV the ideal clan for many people, and at one point in [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast]], membership in WoV had swelled to 122 players (this figure is not inflated). Needless to say, this could not last, as disputes over ranks began to tear the clan apart from the inside out.

Amazingly, by the time [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy]] was launched, active membership in WoV had dwindled to roughly six members. At this point, the senior-most member was a player known as Kilroy, who's name later changed to [[Intrepid]]. He saw membership lows and the lack of more senior members as a chance for the regrowth and heavy improvement. Ranks were done away with, and with them went some of the role-playing themes which characterized WoV in [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast]], but these sacrifices had to be made in order to actuate the plan to make WoV into a respectable clan once more. Not satisfied with garnering members simply to beef up numbers, [[Intrepid]] a.k.a Kilroy went to great lengths during the early days of [[Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy]] to entice players who were far better than himself at the time to join.

This type of wooing continued, and after a few months, WoV had become a respectable clan again, as more time passed, it grew to become quite skilled. But the hay-day of WoV did not truly come until the dissolution of several other high-profile american clans, such as [[OoS]], and especially, american powerhouse clan Master. Many Ex-Masters found a new home in WoV, and the collective draw of the skilled players and easygoing atmosphere of WoV was answered by the new memberships of skilled duelists from all different north american clans. For a period of about 6 months or so, and probably quite longer, clan WoV was arguably the best TFFA and NF Duel clan in North America. Jedi Academy Master (JAM) is an honorary title given to exceptional [[Jedi Academy Trainer]]s at [[the Jedi Academy]].

The only Jedi Academy members that have been given this title are [[Luke Skywalker]], [[Dark Blade]], [[Jaina D'Kana]], [[Gradius]], and [[Jaiko D'Kana]]. [[Jaiko D'Kana]] is currently the only active Jedi Academy Master.
