JK13 is a Staff saberist who has been playing Jedi Knight games for nearly 4 years. A former JAT and current member of The Jedi Academy Aurochs, he is acknowledged as a skilled staff user who is intensely competitive but always friendly and happy to train others.

JediKnight13
JK13 started playing Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast before the The Jedi Academy opened. Seeing a thread about a school for JK2, and thinking he would like to contribute to the school, he applied to become a Jedi Academy Trainer thinking he would fail the trial, but be taken as a student (considering applications to become students were closed). His plan backfired, and JK13 became a JAT. JK13 taught blue stance and some simple red stance combos for several months before becoming inactive.

Next Phase of Activity
After JK13 came back from being inactive, he found himself demoted to Student. Since his last activity, JK2 had been patched from v 1.03 to verson 1.04. This patch changed the saber system drastically, removing saber throw and aerial lunge moves from duels and heavily nerfing the backstab and backslash maneuvers. JK13 was crushed, his saber style was completely destroyed. Realizing he had to rebuild his style and learn new tactics in stances he rarely ever used, JK13 annoyed anyone he could find to teach him new tactics.

Padawan to Luke Skywalker
One such annoyed person was Jedi Academy Master, then Jedi Academy Trainer, Luke Skywalker. Finally breaking down and taking time to train a noobish JK13, Luke taught JK13 the foundation skills of his style, the Yellow Scissors, advancing scissors and diagonal swipes. JK13 improved drastically in the weeks following this training and had a new style, new direction, and new skill set. Quickly finding that his Dialup internet was too slow and laggy to be competitive at Jedi Outcast, JK13 gave up the game to have more time in his RL.

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Soon though, a new game was relased, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and JK13 was back to see the new game in action. After playing the demo JK13 was hooked on the Star Wars action once more, rejoining The Academy again in the new game. JK13 had fun trying out the new staff saber in The Jedi Academy. However, soon the games would take a back seat to real life for a while and JK13 became inactive once again for a span of several months.

Return of JK13!
Eventually JK13 returned to his staffing ways, joining the JA server seemingly out of nowhere. Finding the place completely changed, JK13 felt strange. Not knowing anyone in the JA was a real oddity to him. Attempting to raise his skill with staff saber and make new friends at the same time, JK13 soon befriended players such as Dane, Tido, and Sauce. JK13 also began to learn important skills as he attended JA classes and practiced his tactics under the tutelage of various players. Eventually JK13 went to PUG tffa with some of his friends from the JA and from this learned an appreciation for servers other than those belonging to The Jedi Academy. From his experience on pug servers and his other favorite pasttime, watching training demos of more skilled players, JK13 began to develop new and more radical tactics to use in his fighting repertoire, including his style of changing lightsaber stances in the middle of a swing, a tactic he learned from watching the wildly popular Austrian player, eviLwindu. His new tactics, combined with strengthening movement skills and a patient demeanor, earned JK13 a roster slot on The Jedi Academy Aurochs, the competitive fighting team which represents The Jedi Academy.

JK13 Now
Recently JK13 has been playing too much World of Warcraft, but after achieveing the feat of leveling 2 characters to level 60, JK13 is ready to return to The Jedi Academy Aurochs as an active member and player of JK3.

Blue stance, also known as fast stance, uses quick swings that allow for many repeated attacks, but inflict low amounts of damage. Because it is so difficult to use effectively, some players consider it embarassing to be beaten with blue stance, and others will beat lesser opponents using only blue to intentionally demoralize them. Except for the lunge attack, Blue stance is rarely used in online play.
Special Moves
Kata
A Kata is performed by pressing primary fire and secondary fire simultaneously. The Blue Stance Kata involves the jedi swinging his lightsaber around his body in an arc. The movements are quick, and inflict little damage with each swing. The jedi does not move during the kata, leaving him very vulnerable to counter-attacks, especially because of blue stance's poor range. The kata also does not cover the jedi's back, leaving him open to attack.

The most dangerous move in blue stance, the lunge is a quick, powerful uppercut that hits directly in front of the jedi. It is achieved by pressing forward, crouch, and primary fire simultaneously, or by holding forward and crouch and then pressing primary fire. The lunge can be devastating if timed perfectly, possibly inflicting 100hp. The lunge's effectiveness depends primarily on the element of surprise. Most of the time, if the opponent sees blue stance, he/she expects the lunge.

Proximo: /* "Knight Level" Admin Access */ grammar

A JAK is a position at The Jedi Academy which provides a vital link between the students and trainers. These JAK are shining products of the Academy's teachings. A JAK does not have the ability to teach classes but can assist students in one-on-one training and take over classes if needed. The primary role of the Knights are to be admins on the servers and enforce the rules.

Quote from the Academy's Holocron:<br>
Jedi Academy Knight (JAK) - Knights are the bridge between the upper management and the students, so if you feel ignored from the big boys, go to the JAKs and they will support you. These are the students’ best friends. Treat them that way. They are meant to assist the teachers on giving classes, keeping order on servers and generally helping students out. Knights are not chosen for “l33t” skills (although they should be good fighters of course) but for their attitude. Also, they have limited access to admin commands, so they can keep order at the servers as well. If you’re having trouble or want to learn some basic stuff, knights are the first place to go to.

The Selection Process - Becoming a Knight
Toggling
Knights are selected from the Academy Student body by the Jedi Academy Trainers. Other Knights can make recommendations but only the JATs have the power to "toggle" a Student. Typically, a Student must be a member of the Academy for at least 4 months before being eligable for Knighthood. Most Knights have been JA Students for 6 months to over a year before reaching that rank, though. Students are recommended for Knighthood both by the Students and by other Knights in their respective threads at the Academy's Forums. When the JATs and the JACs decide the Academy needs more Knights, the JATs go through the recommendations and toggle a "batch" of potential Knights. Batches are usually between 3-7 potentials. Today, the actual toggling is done by the JACs and the JATs simply vote in a thread for each potential.
Each JAT has a limited number of votes they can use. If a potential gets enough votes, he or she gets toggled by the JAC. Once toggled, they can take the next step: the written test.

Desired Qualities
Potential Knights usually have these qualities:
* Attitude - Knights must be likeable and mature. They need to be able to think through conflicts rationally and not display negative emotion towards others. Knights must respect each member of the Academy. Basically, they need to act like "Knights."
* Skilled - The Academy wants its Knights to be good examples as fighters. The Knights are the future Trainers and need to be able to play the game well.
* Popular - The Academy has a lot of students and it's hard to stand out amongst them. Almost all of the Academy's Knights are well liked and popular with both the students and the staff.
* Able to Teach - While the Knights do not teach classes at the Academy, they are the next in line to do so. Therefore, a potential's ability to teach is usually a hot topic in the Knight selection process.

The Written Exam
Once toggled, a slight change happens on the Academy's website that lets the student know he's been selected. Through this, the student can take the written exam required before taking the trial. The exam is a special part of the website that asks roughly 5-6 questions and gives spaces for the answers. Questions range in topics about the game, about administration, and about the student's experience at the Academy. Most toggled students will discover that everytime they load the exam page different questions are asked. This can be very frustrating to students who have written their answers in a word processor and are returning to post their answers. Once submitted, the Knights, Trainers, and Council review and comment on the answers. A JAC's approval is required for the toggled student to advance to the trials. Most students end up having to modify and resubmit their exams to pass.

The Trial
The Knight Trial is the most secretive part of the selection process. It is also the most difficult. While the actual details of the trial cannot be revealed, it's common knowledge that the trials test an individual on their skill in the game and their ability to handle special situations. The Knight Trials have been through many renovations through the existance of the Academy. Currently, the trials are divided up into multiple parts with special maps made for each one. For a trial to take place, at least 1 JAT must be present and leads the trial. There also must be at least 2 other ranked members of the Academy there. The trial cannot have more than 5 people attending - including the potential knight. The outcome of the trial is determined by the leading JAT with the input of the others administering it. If the potential fails, he or she will have one more oppourtunity in two weeks before being detoggled.

Powers and Abilities
"Knight Level" Admin Access
On the Academy servers, the Knights have these abilities:
* Status (amstatus): Shows all connected clients, their ID number, and their IP address. Knights use this command to give the IP addresses to higher ranked members to either take action against or look up information on. The ID numbers can also be used to excecute other commands.
* Admin Chat (amsay): A special chat visable only to logged-in admins. Knights use this to talk about things they don't want the Students to know about or simply talk to other admins.
* Origin (amorigin): Tells the Knight the location of a certain player on the map in X, Y, Z, YAW format, where YAW is the direction the player is facing.
* Teleport (amtele & amteleme): A Knight can "teleport" himself or another person to any coordinate on the map.
* Silence (amsilence & amunsilence): Removes a client's ability to chat.
* MP Say (ampsay): Displays a special message to the selected individual and appears in the middle of the players screen
* Kick (amkick): Removes someone from the server.

The Knights in the past had a "Knight Level" access to the Academy's admin IRC bot in the #jedi-academy channel. The Academy no longer has this bot.

The Knights have no admin access on the website, but they do have access to the ftp server.

"Official" Padawans
One of the perks of being a Knight is the ability to take a student as your padawan. The padawans of Knights are considered "official padawans" in the Academy and show up under the Knight's profile.

Official Event Coordinators
Among their responsibilities to the Academy, Knights commonly plan, organize, and lead official events and projects. These events primarily include tournaments (The Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament and JAK+ Tournament). A few examples of projects that JAKs have had an active role in would be the making of the current JA Skin Pack and Hilt Pack (currently in the works).

* Status (jkstatus): Shows all connected clients, their ID number, and their IP address. Knights use this command to give the IP addresses to higher ranked members to either take action against or look up information on. The ID numbers are used to do other commands.
* Admin Chat (amsay): A special chat visable only to logged-in admins. Knights use this to talk about things they don't want the students to know about or simply talk to other admins.
* Origin (jkorigin): Tells the Knight where any client on the server is located on the map in X, Y, Z, and direction being faced.
* Teleport (jktele & jkteleme): The Knight can "teleport" himself or another person to any coordinates on the map.
* Silence (jksilence & jkunsilence): Removes a client's ability to chat.
* MP Say (jkmpsay): Displays a large special message either to everyone on the server or to a certain client.
* Kick (jkkick): Removes someone from the server.

The Knights in the past used to have a "Knight Level" access to the Academy's admin IRC bot in the #jedi-academy channel.

The Thanksgiving Invitational Tournaments are Tournaments held at the Jedi Academy annually around Thanksgiving. Tournaments are available only to Jedi Academy Students. Tournament matches are made up of a series of duels, some no-force, some full-force.
History
TIT1, 2002
The First Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament was set up by D'Kana, with the assistance of Huxley and Zero. The Tournament was held from November 20th to November 27th, and about 40 students participated. ShadowSith defeated Nofrikinfun in the Division Finals and faced Muffin-Man in the finals, who had beaten Hon Accor in his Division Finals. ShadowSith defeated Muffin-Man to earn himself the Gold Medal and the secret prize, the rank of Knight. Muffin-Man recieved the Silver Medal.

TIT2, 2003
The Second Tournament was arranged by FaDed and skyler_. It was held from November 23rd to December 8th, with 64 students competing. YinYang defeated LeGoLiAn and D@RtHM@UL defeated Daidalus to make it into the finals, where D@RtHM@UL was victorious, winning the Gold Medal and the prize, the Knights of the Old Republic PC game.

TIT3, 2004
The Third Tournament was the first one held in JKA. It was held from November 8th to November 25th, with about 50 students fighting. For this TIT, a seperate Team tournament was arranged, with 7 teams of three entering. Due to lack of participation, the team cup was eventually cancelled. Sfire defeated Squibit in the finals to win the Gold Medal and a scaled Star Wars hilt replica.

TIT4, 2005
The Fourth Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament was arranged by Roan Belouve. It was not nearly as publicized due to the problems of TIT3. It was opened on the 27th of November and 50 students signed up. The Tournament fell apart near the end, when rumors of exploiting were spread and fighters began withdrawing from the tournament. Eventually, on December 29th, R2D2 and AvaloN Pride were anounced as the winners of the US and European brackets respectively, with no final match.

The DEMP2 has a high rate of fire in primary mode. Direct hits from the energy balls causes a fair amount of damage, and disables an enemies weapons for a few seconds.
The DEMP2 fires larger ion blasts in secondary mode. The gun can be charged to create a larger blast. Blasts do a high amount of damage and disable weapons for several seconds. Secondary blasts are best fired at the ground near an enemy because of their wider radius.
