The thermal detonator is the hand grenade of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. It produces a small blast that causes moderate damage to those in the radius of it.

Primary Fire

Upon release, the thermal detonator has a 4 second fuse before it explodes. It can bounce around for a very good distance and is sometimes useful to throw around a corner or behind you. Making the detonator explode in range of someone is very difficult to do, however. The 4 second delay, the unpredicability of some of the bounces, and the fact that most opponents will be aware of its presence makes it hard to actually hit someone with the primary fire mode.

Secondary Fire

Secondary fire is the perfered mode of most fighters using the thermal detonator. It's ability to detonate on impact makes it much more practical to actually hit someone directly or within the blast radius. A direct hit by a thermal detonator to the head is devastating.

Other Information

The thermal detonators featured in Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy are Merr-Sonn's Class E Thermal Detonators and not the much more powerful Class A model used by the disguised Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi.
