History

The lightsaber has been the weapon of choice for force-users since before the time of the Old Republic, its invention traces back to the need for a weapon that could overpower almost any armor and deflect almost any attack. Over the years it has refined in design until it became the elegant weapon that was during The New Jedi Order era.

Lightsaber Design

Handle: mostly a simple cylinder, sometimes curved from 8-14 inches long.
Activation System: Some have buttons, while more modern ones like Luke Skywalker's have pressure pads.
Flashback Suppressor: a device that prevents the lightsaber from destroying itself.
